Corporate governance advisor, member of the McFaul–Yermak International Expert Group on Sanctions

Dr Andriy Boytsun is a member of the McFaul–Yermak International Expert Group on Sanctions. Andriy is recognised as a leading corporate governance authority in Ukraine.

He has over 20 years of experience in corporate governance research, profound international expertise, and an extensive track record of designing and implementing actionable corporate governance policies for state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and governments.

Andriy is the founder, editor, and publisher of the Ukrainian SOE Weekly, an independent weekly digest on Ukrainian SOEs and state-owned banks. Since 2021, Andriy has led the Corporate Governance Stream at the Kyiv School of Economics.

He has advised the governments of Ukraine and Uzbekistan and the largest Ukrainian SOEs, including Naftogaz, Ukrenergo, Ukrposhta, Ukroboronprom, and the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine. He also serves as an independent member of the supervisory board of Ukrnafta, Ukraine’s largest oil company, where he chairs the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

From 2016 to 2019, as part of the Mikloš–Balcerowicz advisory group, Andriy advised the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on corporate governance and privatisation. From 2016 to 2018, he was an independent member of the SOE Nomination Committee responsible for nominating CEOs and supervisory board members in Ukraine’s most important SOEs.

Previously, Andriy worked as Research Director at the Centre for Economic Strategy (CES) and Adviser to the CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine, the country’s largest SOE.

From 2000, Andriy worked as an Assistant and later as Visiting Professor and Research Fellow at the University of Antwerp (Belgium), where he did research on corporate governance and taught courses in management. He is a co-founder of the Ukrainian Corporate Governance Academy (UCGA). Andriy holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Antwerp, where he defended a doctoral thesis on corporate governance. He is fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, English, and Dutch.
